Come out and support Good Sam and enjoy a fun trail race for everyone….run, walk, race, bring your dog, everyone is welcome!
MUTS members-only first annual “Fat Ass” race will be held on May 4th, and it is open to anyone who has paid 2019 membership dues. Fat Ass = free, no-frills runs that are all about the run and the social aspect of running. This “race” is a fun run with no registration fee, no swag, and no aid stations. We will gather in the Madison Landing parking lot by Cock of the Walk at the reservoir. The format of the race is loosely based on the popular Big’s Backyard Ultra race in TN in which runners run a 4.1 mile loop at the top of every hour until one person is left standing. Like this race, we will have a certain amount of time to run a marked route. Unlike this race in TN where the last 2 competitors ran for 68 hours and logged 280 miles last fall, our race will end much more quickly because A. we are not elite athletes and B. we will quickly reduce our time frame to run the route. We then can enjoy lunch and cold beers together by early afternoon. Everyone must start the race at 7 am. This is the schedule:
We will alternate routes—one will take us around Old Trace Park to the Overlook and back for 2.75 miles in 45 minutes. The next route runs around the levee towards the Breakers and the houseboats and back in 45 minutes. The race follows the same schedule of routes, but the time to finish each 2.75 mile loop will be reduced. When you can’t finish the loop in the allotted time frame, you are tapped out of the race.
Join MUTS for a group run at Butts Park at 7 on March 16th. We will begin in Buddy Butts Park at the picnic bench and run a portion of the KICK UP THE DUST and the BIG BUTTS route. Everyone is welcome! Directions: turn into the park at the Tee Time driving range and follow the drive, take a left, and follow this road around until it dead ends at the trailhead.
